All Upright Pianos
We are proud to offer our customers upright pianos from Kawai, Schimmel, and Yamaha, three of the world’s leading piano makers. Renowned for their exceptional tone, touch, and reliability, these instruments represent the pinnacle of piano craftsmanship.
While many upright pianos may look impressive when brand new, their performance over time can vary dramatically. A piano is a precision machine, and without superior engineering, it can become noisy, difficult to play, and struggle to stay in tune.
That’s why we only recommend pianos from trusted manufacturers with generations of experience and a proven track record. Choosing the right piano is an investment: a high-quality upright can provide a lifetime of musical pleasure while retaining its value.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced pianist, selecting a well engineered upright piano ensures both enduring performance and enjoyment.

FAQs
What is an acoustic piano?
An acoustic piano produces sound mechanically: when keys are pressed, felt-covered hammers strike steel strings. Those vibrations transmit to a wooden soundboard, creating rich resonance and natural overtones entirely without electronics.
What should I look for in an upright piano?
When evaluating an upright piano, focus on:
-
Height/Size: Taller pianos (48–52″) yield longer strings and fuller bass; smaller spinets (<42″) sacrifice tone depth.
-
Action Quality: Test responsiveness across soft, medium, and loud dynamics. Superior uprights use back-check springs or even agraffes for precise repetition and minimal noise.
-
Soundboard & Tone Clarity: Inspect for clear treble without buzzing. High-end models feature well-cured spruce soundboards and multiple bracing posts to enhance resonance.
-
Cabinet Construction: Solid hardwood frames and precision joinery not only support tension but contribute to overall tonal character on premium instruments
What is the lifespan of an upright piano?
A well-built upright, regularly tuned and kept in stable humidity (40–50%), can remain musically viable for 50–100 years. Mass-market models often last 30–50 years before requiring major rebuilds. Periodic action regulation, voicing, and soundboard care are key to longevity
What are the 3 types of upright piano?
Uprights are commonly grouped by height and action design:
-
Studio/Professional (48–52″): Full-sized action and soundboard, suited to serious students and small venues.
-
Console (42–47″): Mid-range height with direct action; balances tone and space.
-
Spinet (<42″): Most compact with drop-action; budget-friendly but limited dynamic range and tone
Should I buy a digital piano or an upright piano?
Choose a digital piano if you need volume control, headphone practice, a variety of sounds, MIDI/USB connectivity, and minimal maintenance. Opt for an upright acoustic if you prioritise authentic hammer-string touch, organic resonance, and the visual/auditory presence of wood—provided you have space, budget for tuning, and climate-controlled storage.
