Why we recommend the CLP-845:
The CLP-845 is where the Clavinova range starts to become particularly interesting for pianists who place touch and acoustic-piano feel high on their list of priorities.
The introduction of wooden white keys gives the GrandTouch-S keyboard a more substantial and natural feel under the fingers, while the upgraded 2-way speaker system gives the CFX and Bösendorfer piano sounds greater depth, presence and projection.
For us, this is what justifies the step from the CLP-835.
It’s not simply about gaining additional specifications. The piano itself feels and sounds more substantial.
For a developing pianist, experienced player or someone accustomed to playing an acoustic piano, the CLP-845 represents an excellent balance between authentic piano performance and the everyday convenience of a digital instrument.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Yamaha CLP-845 have wooden keys?
Yes. This is one of the most important differences between the CLP-845 and CLP-835.
The CLP-845 uses Yamaha’s GrandTouch-S keyboard with wooden white keys, helping create a more substantial and authentic piano feel.
What is the difference between the CLP-835 and CLP-845?
The biggest differences are touch and sound projection.
The CLP-845 introduces wooden white keys and a more powerful 2-way speaker system with diffusers. This gives it a noticeably more substantial feel and fuller sound.
Specifications can only tell you so much, however. We’d recommend playing the CLP-835 and CLP-845 side by side, as the difference becomes much easier to appreciate at the keyboard.
Is the CLP-845 suitable for advanced pianists?
Yes. Its wooden-key GrandTouch-S action, expressive CFX and Bösendorfer piano sounds and more substantial speaker system make the CLP-845 particularly suitable for serious students, advanced players and experienced pianists wanting a quality digital piano at home.
Should I choose the CLP-845 or CLP-875?
The CLP-875 moves another significant step towards the experience of a grand piano, with Yamaha’s higher-level GrandTouch keyboard, Linear Graded Hammer technology and a considerably more sophisticated speaker system.
For many home pianists, however, the CLP-845 provides an excellent balance between performance and price.
We recommend trying both side by side if possible.
Can I connect my phone or tablet?
Yes. Bluetooth Audio & MIDI connectivity is included, along with compatibility with Yamaha’s Smart Pianist app.
