Why we recommend the CX102:
The CX102 is a great starting point for someone looking for their first proper piano.
Rather than overwhelming a beginner with hundreds of sounds and features, Kawai has concentrated on the things that really matter: a good weighted keyboard, a quality piano sound and an instrument that is enjoyable to practise on.
The new Responsive Hammer Lite action gives beginners the resistance and graded weighting needed to start developing proper piano technique, while the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand sound provides a far more expressive and rewarding experience than a basic keyboard.
For a child starting lessons, an adult learning for the first time or someone returning to the piano, the CX102 offers an excellent balance of quality, simplicity and value.
Why Choose the Kawai CX102?
New Responsive Hammer Lite Keyboard Action
The CX102 introduces Kawai’s Responsive Hammer Lite keyboard action.
All 88 keys are fully weighted and graded, meaning the bass keys feel progressively heavier while the treble becomes lighter – just as you would expect when playing an acoustic piano.
For a beginner, this is particularly important. Learning on a properly weighted keyboard helps develop finger strength, control and technique that can transfer naturally to an acoustic piano.
Shigeru Kawai Concert Grand Sound
Despite being Kawai’s most accessible CX model, the CX102 features the sound of the prestigious Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano.
Kawai’s Harmonic Imaging technology uses individual 88-key sampling to recreate the changing tonal character of a real grand piano.
Play softly and the sound becomes delicate and mellow. Play with more strength and the piano responds with greater brightness and power.
This allows a developing pianist to begin learning one of the most important aspects of piano playing – expression and dynamics.
22W Stereo Speaker System
The CX102 features two 12cm speakers powered by 11W + 11W amplification.
The result is a clear, warm piano sound with plenty of volume for everyday home practice.
Kawai’s Low Volume Balance technology also helps retain a full and balanced sound when playing quietly – particularly useful for evening practice or shared family spaces.
Bluetooth MIDI Connectivity
Built-in Bluetooth MIDI allows the CX102 to connect wirelessly to compatible smartphones and tablets.
This makes it easy to use learning and music apps without having to connect additional MIDI cables.
USB-MIDI connectivity is also included.
Kawai PianoRemote App
The CX102 is compatible with Kawai’s PianoRemote app, providing an intuitive way to select sounds, adjust settings and access additional features from a compatible smartphone or tablet.
This keeps the piano itself simple and uncluttered while still giving you access to plenty of control when you want it.
Everything You Need to Start Learning
The CX102 includes a built-in metronome to help develop timing, a recorder so you can listen back to your playing and lesson functions with exercises from established piano method books.
Two headphone connections also allow quiet practice at any time – or even for a teacher and pupil to listen together.
Who Is The CX102 For?
✓ Complete beginners starting piano lessons
✓ Children learning their first instrument
✓ Adults learning the piano for the first time
✓ Returning players wanting a straightforward home piano
✓ Families looking for a quality first digital piano
✓ Players who want realistic weighted keys without unnecessary features
✓ Anyone looking for an affordable introduction to Kawai digital pianos
